God Bless Ireland!

In Loving Memory of Tom Boyer, 1951 - 2010

The Facility

Located on the city's east side in a renovated, late 19th and early 20th century former school building that sprawls over a full city block, the IHC is dedicated to fostering Irish heritage, culture and traditions in our city and to providing a place to do so that is affordable, accessible and comfortable.

The Center will be known as a place for all which welcomes peoples of all faiths, ethnicity, or background with ties to any of the 32 counties of Ireland in any manner whatsoever.

We have a theater/ballroom, tea room, social room, library, music room, dance room, and plans for a museum. We also have rooms for artist studios, meetings, clubs, events, and concerts. Rentals are available for everything! Contact us and we will accommodate your needs.

A Memorial Garden, dedicated to Our Lady of Knock is planned, as is an art gallery, and potentially artists' loft areas available for rent.

The Irish Heritage Center group's purchase of the old McKinley School took some unexpected turns before the deal was finally closed on Nov. 24.

McKinley was one of nine schools the Cincinnati Board of Education authorized for sale in March 2009.

Last June, the school district rejected a developer's bid for the school. The Irish Heritage Center group submitted a sealed bid that was accepted in July.

But the closing of the deal was delayed when the group's attorney discovered that the city owned the land the building sits on.

After months of discussion, the city transferred the land to the school district without any conditions so that the land could be included in the sale.

The deal was closed on Nov. 24, although the purchase of McKinley never returned to the board for a second measure approving the specific transaction.

School district spokeswoman Janet Walsh said the board will act to ratify the deal in the near future.
