Lots to do to create this amazing center of Irish Heritage. Your contributions will make a difference from filing, sweeping to painting, plumbing, staging -- there is a spot for each and everyone. Group efforts are also needed. Please call for details at 513-533-0100, we provide lunches and need the attendance numbers.
EVENTS
William Butler Yeats Exhibit from Dublin!
January 21 - February 9, 2012
The Life and Works of the great Poet - Writer - Dramatist W. B. Yeats who is celebrated as one of the most important figures of 20th-century literature.
The exhibit has come to the tri-state area from Ireland's National Library in Dublin, in partnership with our Greater Cincinnati Irish Heritage Center for three - four weeks only, after extensive negotiations of more than two years by the Center's Directors. It is a feat, and a real treasure! Please spread the word. Bring the family and especially the students!
Three week exhibit; open on Thursdays 4:00-8:00 Saturdays 3:00-6:00 and by appointment for groups of 8 or more, ending mid- February 2012.

Bua Irish Music Concert
Bua amazing Irish Traditional music comes to the Irish Heritage center on Thursday February 9th at 7:00 PM an in house concert in the Social Room. These tremendous musicians, from Ireland are a rare treat and should not be missed. A few members of Bua performed at the IHC last year they told us then they wanted to return with the group. Now they have an opportunity to come to Cincinnati during their tour, it is last minute but we knew you'd want to hear the music….they will be here in less than 2 weeks. Please tell your friends and use your FB, etc. to spread the word. Guaranteed a great evening! Door open at 6:00 P.M.. Come early get your seat have a beverage beforehand and enjoy!!

Irish American Theater Company
A Couple of Blaguards
Ohio's premier of the hysterical play by Frank McCourt and Malachy McCourt. This exciting romp depicts life in Ireland followed by immigration to and living in America. There are many characters who are encountered on the way. Thoughtfully produced by the Award Winning Irish American Theater Company under the direction of Maureen A. Kennedy, The show runs Friday February 24th, Saturday February 25, both at 7:30 P.M., and Sunday February 26th 2:00 P.M., Matinee. Critics classify this piece as hilarious - be sure to order tickets early. This company is known for its sold out performances. Tickets ARE $20, DISCOUNTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE IRISH Heritage Center $18. The Irish American Theater Company has been invited to Dublin Ireland to produce this play in May 2012 as a part of Acting Irish International.

CLASSES
Fiddle Lessons, Beginners and Intermediate
Students will learn the tunes, techniques, and traditions that have defined Irish dance music for over one hundred years. Beginners will first learn to navigate the instrument. Intermediates will move at a faster pace.
Tuesdays: Beginners 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Intermediates 815 to 9:15 p.m.

Justin Bridges is a professional fiddler and teacher. He is well known in the community
as a performer, a member of the celebrated Celtic band Silver Arm, and a teacher. Justin
travels to Ireland regularly to study and perform. He has studied traditions of the fiddle
with recognized masters. He has been teaching since 2001.
Irish Singing Lessons
Students will learn traditional song of Ireland with emphasis on technique, breath control,
ornamentation, and feeling. No prior vocal training required.
Tuesdays: 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Mai Hemon is from Ireland with fifteen years experience in teaching Irish singing. She
has performed across Ireland, England, and the United States. She also has experience
adjudicating at Fleads and Feesana.
Irish Set Dancing
Students will learn traditional set dances such as the Kerry Sets. No set dancing
experience required. Set dancing is a great workout, a fun evening of social interaction,
as well as learning dances typically done in Ireland
Tuesdays: 8:15 to 9:15 p.m.

Art Classes for Older Teens and Adults
Students will select a subject they would like to paint in oils. Subjects can be a picture or
photo of a landscape or portrait of anything they wish to paint. Each student will be taken
from set up to drawing his/her subject through painting a complete subject. Advice on
materials will be available. No experience required.
Saturdays: 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Art Classes for Children (Ages 6 thru 15)
Students will learn to draw and the basic techniques in use of watercolors.

Northern Ireland 1968-1998: The Troubles
This course will cover the events leading up to and during The Troubles in Northern
Ireland. Topics include Partition, the civil rights marches, the deployment of British troops,
subsequent civil strife, and the negotiations leading to the Good Friday agreement.
Thursdays: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
January 19, 2012 thru March 22, 2012 (Ten hours total instruction)

James Magee, Jr., an attorney, holds an advanced diploma from Ulster University in Irish
Heritage and Culture. He has taught at Thomas More College and is active in the Ancient
Order of Hibernians. He regularly attends the Bloody Sunday Commemoration in Derry
and annually leads a tour to Ireland during that time.
Irish Language
Students will learn basic Irish phrases, customs, and greetings. Opportunities to join in
the Irish speaking club are open for all attendees. No experience required.
Tuesdays: 7:00 p.m.
January 17, 2012 thru March 6, 2012 (Eight hours total instruction)

Michael Simonton returns to teach this class in his ever popular fashion that emphasizes
useful phrases for daily living and reconnoitering in the Irish Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking
regions of Ireland). Michael has taught literature, languages, and effective writing at
Northern Kentucky University for many years and is as mucha favorite among the
faculty here at the IHC as he is at NKU. (Please send biographical information to me for
inclusion.)
Bodhran (Irish Drum)
Students will learn to play the Bodhran (Irish drum) “From the Ground Up.” The
instruction is based on the method of Rob Pinkerton. No experience required.
Tuesdays: 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.
January 17, 2012 thru March 6, 2012 (Six hours total instruction)

John McBride is a seasoned performer and teacher, having taught at the Riley School
of Irish music and at numerous Irish festivals. He has performed with Eric Kunzel and
the Cincinnati Pops and with Roger Drawdy and the Firestarters, among others. He has
produced his own beginner bodhan instructional video.
