About Irish American Theatre Co.
The Irish American Theatre Company is housed within the Irish Heritage Center in the Columbia Tusculum area of Cincinnati. Since 2010 the Irish Heritage Center has been a home for preserving, entertaining and educating in all things Irish.
The Company is a collective of professional and community artists who are dedicated to bringing to life the stories and people of Ireland for the enjoyment of audiences of all ages. Founded by Company Artistic Director Maureen A. Kennedy and a group of actors, musicians, educators and friends in 2004, the company is now in its tenth year. Since the inception of the Irish American Theatre Company in 2004, this enthusiastic Company has grown into a Cincinnati favorite.
The Theatre Company has performed 2 times in Ireland, most recently in 2019 in Listowel co Kerry. It was there that Kent was honored with the Adjudicators Award for his role as Gentle Joe! Earlier in Dublin, they performed with A Couple of Blaguards.
The theatre group has brought the stories and people of Ireland to life with many hours of Story-telling by musicals, plays and more! Original musicals such as Maggies Murphy’s Home by Bill Williams and Raised on Songs and Stories by Kent Covey have rooted through the Theatre.
Along with hosting the “Acting Irish International Theater Festival” in May 2015, the Theatre has also premiered many plays to the city of Cincinnati: The Irish And How They Got That Way by Frank McCourt, A Little like Paradise by Niall Williams, Blood by Larry Kirwan, Moll by John B. Keane What Happened Bridgie Cleary by Tom MacIntyre and A Couple of Blaguards by Frank and Malachy McCourt.
